Bolton Ferret Welfare

About Bolton Ferret Welfare

Bolton Ferret Welfare more or less came about by accident, Ron, my other half found a little sandy coloured hob in the front street. He rescued it from some children who were prodding the poor little thing with sticks.

The end result was the little hob was housed in a cat-sized pet carrier, given water and a bowl of raw mince. I set about phoning round to see if there were any animal rescues in the area who would take in a ferret - I wasn't too keen on the suggestion of a R.S.P.C.A. volunteer, "release it back into the wild", I don't think this misguided advice is given any more but they still don't take in ferrets (at least they don't in this area).

This occurred some twenty years ago. Ron passed away in 2000 but I still do my best to take in the occasional ferret.

To raise funds for the welfare I attend events all over the UK doing ferret P.R. and ferret racing. Should any event organisers want to have ferret racing as an added attracted for their, country show, fete, gala etc please contact me, Sheila Crompton by email or phone: 07718 066177.

Some of the events attended: Southport Countryside Show; Brecon County Show; Kington Vintage Rally; Three Cocks Vintage Rally (Hay-on-Wye); The Scottish Game Fair; Higher Poynton Gala; Victorian Gala - Southport Botanical Gardens; Golcar Gala those are just a few of the events.

We've travelled as far north as Perth, been down to St David's west Wales and across to Sandringham in eastern England, distance isn't a problem; although we do prefer two day events when travelling any distance - there's quite a bit of work involved in setting up for an event.

New event shelters at Beeston Castle, the last show of the 2015 season

Last event of the 2015 "show season" - just wanted to try out the new event shelters which replaced the pop-up gazebos that couldn't stand windy conditions. It's at Beeston Castle in Cheshire.
